SF Bay Guardian – Bay Area Annual Photo Issue

Friday, August 6th, 2010

It was great honor to be featured as one of six “sharp-eyed local visionaries” in the Bay Guardian’s annual photo issue this week.  For the article they featured a photo from The Tenderloin Project and asked me to write a little about what the photograph meant to me.

From the issue:

The six photographers showcased in our annual collection of Bay Area visions include a trio of young artists with new visions of portraiture. Cover artist Dean Dempsey mixes realism and artifice to reimagine a personal history involving lost limbs. The photos of Amanda Lopez and Parker Tilghman are supercharged by a love of California and of queer life, respectively. The issue’s other three artists — Seza Bali, Sean Desmond, and Katherine Westerhout — reveal otherwise unseen (and in at least one case, tricky) beauty within the local landscape.

Tenderloin Project Postcards

Friday, June 4th, 2010

These are some postcards that I recently had printed from the Tenderloin Project.  This is the first version in a series of cards that I’m going to be doing.

I’m going to be including a five pack of them for free with the purchase of any t-shirt or poster from the project.  Or if interested in just getting the postcards I can do them as five packs for $5.

It was a big honor to be able to put some work up alongside of Hugh Leeman, Blek le Rat, Eddie, D Young V, and Gaia over the weekend in The Tenderloin.  Big thanks to Chris S. as well for getting me involved with the collaboration, and to Dale (who the picture of the fists is of) for assisting me while I worked!

Thank you so much to everyone that came out to Black Scale last night for Living Exhibition #2 of The Tenderloin Project.  The response to the project was incredible and I sincerely thank everyone who made an effort to come out and support.  The show will be on display at Black Scale until June 10th.  A special thanks to Mega, Alfred, and the entire Black Scale family for their continued support.  And an additional thanks to Joseph Phillips, aka JMPGRAPHY, for coming out and documenting the event.  Enjoy his photos from the night below.

Living Exhibition #2 – Black Scale

Monday, May 17th, 2010

It’s a huge honor to once again be collaborating with Black Scale on a series of t-shirts and sweatshirts. I view this as another amazing opportunity to be creating limited yet accessible pieces of art from the project for people from all walks of life to enjoy. Tomorrow night will mark the release of these new garments and it will also open the door for the second “Living Exhibition” to take place for The Tenderloin Project. The exhibition will be held at Black Scale’s flagship store in Union Square (55 Grant Ave), and will remain on on display there until June 10th, before moving to Atlanta.
